Honoring History, Engaging a Com­mun­ity

How do you build a digital platform that honors stories that survived the Holocaust while serving a modern audience of thousands? We designed and developed the central hub for Violins of Hope Knoxville, an initiative that engaged over 10,000 visitors and became one of the region's most significant cultural events.

The Opportunity

Violins of Hope is more than an exhibition; it's a collection of powerful stories of resilience and survival from the Holocaust, embodied in restored instruments. We were tasked with creating the complete digital presence for this major cultural event in Knoxville—a platform that needed to be a respectful memorial, a practical event guide, an educational resource, and a powerful fundraising tool, all at once.

The creative challenge was immense: How do you design an experience with the tonal sensitivity a subject of this gravity demands, while ensuring it is also accessible, engaging, and highly functional for a diverse public audience?

Our Solution

Our approach was rooted in reverence for the subject and respect for the audience. We engineered a platform where design, content, and technology worked in harmony to serve the story.

• A Design of Quiet Respect: We intentionally avoided the clichés of memorial aesthetics. Instead of stark, somber visuals, we developed a restrained and elegant system using classical typography and generous whitespace. This approach treats the visitor as a thoughtful adult and allows the power of the violins' stories and archival photography to take center stage.
• Purposeful Architecture for Every Visitor: We designed clear, distinct journeys for each user, whether they were a teacher seeking curriculum, a family buying tickets, or a donor looking to support the mission. The information architecture was meticulously planned to serve these complex needs without ever feeling overwhelming.
• High-Performance, Accessible Technology: We built the platform on a modern, server-rendered stack (Next.js) to ensure it was fast, reliable, and accessible to all users, regardless of device or ability. This technical foundation was critical for serving thousands of visitors and supporting the project's broad educational reach.
